Christmas

Published: Jan 18, 2007

Christmas (or Christ's Mass) is the festival of the nativity of Jesus and is celebrated on the 25th of December each year by Protestant and Roman Catholic Churches and on the 7th of January by Eastern Orthodox Churches, although neither are believed to be the actual birth date of Jesus.

It was not widely celebrated until the 4th century AD. It wasn't until the mid 19th century that Christmas began to take on the themes we associate with it today of families, gift giving, good cheer and merriment. Although the festival has lost much of it's religious meaning to people (possibly due to excessive marketing)  it is still a Christian holiday at heart.
