PS3

Released in America on the 17th November 2006 the PS3 is Sony's third video game console and will compete directly against the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360. the basic console comes with a 20GB internal hard drive and features a Blu-Ray disc drive. The console will also be backwards compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games.

While initial sales for the console have been poorer than expected the playstation has such an established fan base that it would be surprising to see the console fail completely. Sony's main problem at present is that the console simply costs too much, this is in part due to the Blu-Ray drive that Sony were keen to include so as to increase Blu-Rays chances of becoming the new standard to replace DVDs. If the move pays off then it was a smart one but some industry analysts thinks Sony may have reduced the chances for both to succeed by lumping them together as at present people can buy both the competitor consoles for less than the price of a single PS3.
