Started in 2005 when the owners were trying to find a way to easily share video files the company has since grown considerably, uploaded videos (which can be in MPEG, AVI or MOV format) are then converted by the site into flash video.
The site at present is thought to be one of the fastest growing websites on the internet and was bought by Google in 2006 $for 1.65 billion. It has been calculated that 100 million clips are viewed daily on YouTube and that 65,000 clips are added daily too.
